Ring Alarm 8-Piece Kit Review

Ring Alarm 8-Piece Kit

A Ring Alarm is a DIY home security system that uses sensors to detect activity and then send alerts to your phone and emergency contacts. The system includes a base station which connects all your Ring Alarm devices. Here are devices that are available:

Contact sensors: These are placed on doors and windows to trigger an alarm when they’re opened.

Motion detectors: Place these in rooms to trigger an alarm when there’s movement.

Ring Video Doorbells: You can see and talk to whoever’s at your door.

Security Cameras: Connect these to the base station.

Panic buttons: Trigger an immediate alarm.

Ring Siren: These are proven to be very effective against intruders.

Flood and freeze sensors: These help prevent water damage.

The Ring Alarm 8-Piece Kit home security system is a DIY home security system that provides self-monitoring and optional 24/7 professional monitoring. This self-contained kit includes everything you need to secure your doors and windows, detect motion, and be alerted of potential break-ins.

Key Features

Easy DIY installation: The Ring Alarm system is designed for easy setup without the need for a professional installer. The base station connects to your Wi-Fi and the sensors are battery-powered with simple peel-and-stick installation.

8-piece security kit: The Ring Alarm 8-Piece Kit includes one base station, one keypad, four contact sensors, one motion detector, and one range extender. This kit is ideal for apartments, condos, and smaller homes.

Optional 24/7 professional monitoring: While you can choose to self-monitor your Ring Alarm system through the Ring app, there is also the option to pay for a monthly monitoring subscription. With professional monitoring, a team of agents will be alerted in the event of a triggered sensor and will contact you and emergency services as necessary.

Works with Alexa and Ring devices: The Ring Alarm system integrates seamlessly with Amazon Alexa for voice control and with other Ring devices, such as Ring doorbells and security cameras, for a more comprehensive smart home security system.

Many users say the setup of the sensors and cameras is really fast and easy, even for non-technical people.

Buyers are surprised at the low cost of the professional monitoring with the Ring system, compared to the other “traditional” security companies.

Several people say the components of this kit integrate well with other Ring devices, such as doorbells and security cameras.

Different Ring Kits Available

There are different Ring Kits besides an 8-piece kit.

The 2 other kits available:

5-Piece Ring Security Kit: This is suitable for apartments and condos and also less expensive than the 8-piece kit. You get one Base Station, one Keypad, one Contact Sensor, one Motion Detector, and one Range Extender.

14-Piece Ring Security Kit: This is great for 2-to-4-bedroom homes, and includes one Base Station, two Keypads, eight Contact Sensors, two Motion Detectors, and one Range Extender.

With this kit you also get an intuitive Keypad that can arm and disarm your Alarm and Contact Sensors – these are the sensors that detect when doors or windows open.

Other Ring Devices and Plans Available

The Ring system shown in this review doesn’t include a camera, but several different ones are available, such as this Ring Video Doorbell.

Ring also supplies Stick Up Cameras (indoor and outdoor), and outdoor Floodlight Cameras with 2 Way Communication.

Outdoor Cameras also come with Night Vision and Security Sirens as shown in [this video].

Ring has subscription plans called Ring Protect Plans, that we think are inexpensive. You get access to paid features for Ring devices such as video doorbells, cameras, and alarms. You can save, review, and share video recordings from your Ring devices to your Ring account.

There are three different plans available:

Ring Protect Basic

Video recording for one Ring doorbell or home camera. Activate digital features, including Rich Notifications, Smart Alerts and in-app arming and disarming for your Ring Alarm or Ring Alarm Pro device.

Ring Protect Plus (most advanced video features)

Video recording for all Ring doorbells and home cameras at one location. Activate digital features, including notifications and in-app arming/disarming, for your Ring Alarm or Ring Alarm Pro device.

Ring Protect Pro

This is the ultimate Ring home security subscription. You get additional benefits for all compatible home devices and the option to enroll in 24/7 Alarm Professional Monitoring for Ring Alarm or the Ring Alarm Pro device for one location.

With the Pro plan you can also add LTE connectivity (internet connection) to your Ring Car Cam, a dashboard security camera.

You can also get a 30-day trial when you register a new device.

Are there any drawbacks to this product?

With this 8-piece kit there may not be enough sensors for larger homes. Additional sensors can be purchased separately.

You don’t have “local storage”, which means you can’t store videos on your own device (phone, tablet, etc.). However, you can get an inexpensive Ring Alarm Pro subscription. Then you can process your videos right on your device and store them on a MicroSD card inserted into your Ring Alarm Pro.

Is this worth buying?

The Ring Alarm 8-Piece Kit is a good option for those looking for a DIY home security system that is easy to install and use. It is ideal for smaller homes or apartments and offers the flexibility of self-monitoring or adding professional monitoring for an additional fee.

This kit is very user-friendly, affordable, and can provide peace of mind for homeowners and renters alike. The bottom line is this system could save your life. With the dramatic increase in crime in many areas, you shouldn’t hesitate to set up your system.

We think that especially the add-on items like the different cameras and Ring Alarm Pro subscription are definitely worth the extra expense. This subscription is a bargain compared to other plans out there, and well worth the investment.
